“And suddenly you know: It’s time to start something new and trust the magic of beginnings”

Meister Eckhart

Welcome

My hope for this space is to share positive, thoughtful and challenging ideas, exploring and growing in the process. My hope is that others are inspired to learn and grow as well. Let’s take this journey together.

In thinking about starting this blog, I began to think about all the starts, restarts and new beginnings in my life. They have all taught me something. Many times the things I learned were not apparent right away. Maybe I’m a slow learner. Sometimes I think I need to learn the hard way for it to really sink in.

There is magic in new beginnings. Anything is possible. Everything is possible!
That’s exciting.
Every day is a new beginning when you think about it. A new 24 hours in which you get to decide what direction you will go.

Reconnect

A friend of mine recently shared the following and I thought I’d share it with you. It’s a wonderful way to look at your day, to live your life.

“The Navajo teach their children that every morning when the sun comes up, it’s a brand-new sun. It’s born each morning, it lives for the duration of one day, and in the evening it passes on, never to return again. As soon as the children are old enough to understand, the adults take them out at dawn and they say, ‘The sun has only one day. You must live this day in a good way, so that the sun won’t have wasted precious time.’ Acknowledging the preciousness of each day is a good way to live, a good way to reconnect with our basic joy.” – Pema Chödrön

My new beginning is questioning. Questioning things I’ve been taught in my life. Things that I just accepted as true.

Open to new ideas

When I think back, I really started to question things spiritually, while reading the book Angels and Demons by Dan Brown. It was like someone nudged me.

“Very little in any organized faith is truly original. Religions are not born from scratch. They grow from one another. Modern religion is a collage . . . an assimilated historical record of man’s quest to understand the divine.”

― Dan Brown, Angels & Demons

I don’t really question the existence of God, well maybe in the traditional sense I have, but organized religion in general. The way I was told to worship and what to believe. Who decided that? I started to open myself up to new ideas, to explore and think for myself.

Not long after that I was talking to my Dad, I can’t even remember what we were talking about, but he said, “Well, history is always written by the winners.” I had never thought about it before.

I guess things come into your life when you are ready to hear them.

It was like waking up from a dream. Not necessarily a bad dream, but I started to see things may not be so black and white.

And so my path has led me here, still questioning and still discovering.

Here are some things to consider:

  • How can I practice mindfulness and gratitude for this new beginning?
  • What habits and routines do I need to have to succeed?
  • Go outside and find something new, something you haven’t noticed before.

Take care and be kind to yourself.

This is the kind of conversation that grows.

What helps you come back to yourself during a busy day?
