“Putting a value on status will create contentiousness.
If you overvalue possessions, people begin to steal.
By displaying what is desirable, you will cause the people’s hearts to remain undisturbed.
The sage governs by emptying minds and hearts, by weakening ambitions and strengthening bones.
Practice not doing…
When action is pure and selfless, everything settles into its own perfect place.”
This interpretation is from the book
“Change Your Thoughts – Change Your Life, Living the Wisdom of the Tao” by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer
There’s a quiet peace that comes when we stop trying to manage everything — our thoughts, our families, even the way life unfolds.
Living simply isn’t just about fewer possessions; it’s about calming the noise inside and around us.
It’s choosing calm over control.
Letting Life Unfold
For me, living simply begins with the mind.
It’s noticing when my thoughts start to spiral into judgment or negativity — and gently steering them in a kinder direction, without judging myself in the process.
It’s loosening my grip on expectations, allowing situations to evolve naturally rather than pushing for a specific outcome.
There’s freedom in letting life unfold, even when it doesn’t look the way I thought it would.
Letting Go of Comparison
Comparison can make peace impossible.
When I measure my worth by someone else’s path, I lose sight of my own.
It’s easy to get caught in the cycle of looking outward — wondering if I’m doing enough, achieving enough, being enough. Looking for approval or reassurance that I’m “doing things right.”
But the truth is, simplicity lives in the space where I stop trying to measure up and start trusting what feels right for me.
And it’s okay if someone else’s idea of what’s right for me… isn’t right for me.
The Beauty of Changing Traditions
I’ve learned that simplicity often hides in the places I’ve overcomplicated.
The holidays used to be one of them — and still can be if I let myself get pulled in the wrong direction.
I’d try to recreate the magic of past years — every detail, every feeling — as if holding on could preserve what once was. But life shifted. Our family changed. Some traditions stayed behind, and that was okay.
New ones took their place, carrying their own kind of beauty. There’s peace in allowing old chapters to close and new ones to unfold.
I still have to remind myself that even when things are different, there is still magic.
Contentment Through Release
Contentment, I’ve realized, comes naturally when I stop trying to control what isn’t mine to control.
Worry can weigh heavy — especially when it’s for people I love.
But love doesn’t mean carrying every burden. It can also mean trusting others to walk their own paths — remembering that I am walking my own, and wanting others to trust me to find my way.
Letting go isn’t giving up — it’s giving space for grace to move.
A Life of Enough
When I stop striving and start trusting, my days feel lighter.
Peaceful.
I can breathe again.
Simplicity isn’t something I have to chase — it’s what’s left when I stop chasing.
A Thought to Carry With You
Take a moment this week to notice where life feels heavy — and see what lightens when you let go of control.
Maybe it’s in a conversation you’ve been trying to fix, a plan that keeps shifting, or a holiday that doesn’t look the same as it once did.
What happens if you loosen your grip — just a little — and let things unfold as they will?
Peace often arrives quietly, in the space we make when we stop managing everything.
Remember to be kind to yourself.
